It’s easy to say that you’re in love when you’re happy. In the moments of a sunny day where there are no worries for the dying flowers nor the guilt for the stamps of sudden rebellion. I love you flows like water on a summer’s day when there isn’t a reason not to smile. There is no direct correlation to winter and sadness, but it seems to be the time where your heart turns cold and when the words become poison as they frost your tongue when they are delivered. We don’t know winter flings because the bitter wind that embraces you is the only love you know.

Gallery 1988 are throwing another of their Under the Influence shows celebrating someone they think would make for great art and they have kindly invited me to take part this year. This time around the subject is the bespectacled East Coast master of neurosis - Woody Allen.

I don’t think you can really separate Woody Allen from his native city, so it would have been remiss of me to do anything but take it as a subject (and it sits quite nicely alongside this Hitchcock piece from last year). I tried a few new techniques and brushes on this, and while I wont be using them all the time, they turned out alright here.

This will be on sale on Friday at Gallery1988 Venice (and at some point soon after at the Gallery 1988 online store) - it’s an 11 x 14 giclee print in an edition of 20 and they will be $40 each.

(also, and this is of no real interest to anyone but me, this is my 100th tumblr blog - which works out at about one a week for the last two years. not too shabby, and hopefully more blogging this year!)

A research says that people who are socially neglected are more creative. You tell a group of students to create a certain something and ask them to pick a few partners to work with. And then tell one student that no one picked him/her. He or she will work alone, sad or not, and finish the task his or her own way. A unique final product will come out of it. One that can change perspectives and stand out as a commercial hit. The group on the other hand finishes the tasks well but has no individuality and will fall into the mainstream.

I am that one kid. You are too. That is why you’re reading this at such a lonely hour. I know you’re lonely. No matter how many friends you have or how happy you can be with yourself. You are lonely. But you are fucking awesome. Because I know you think a lot. You wonder many things. Sometimes you feel like you don’t fit in and people will never fathom your interest. You will create something amazing. Even if it won’t make an impact on society, it will make an impact on you. and honestly that’s all that matters because you are greater than society will ever be.
